England - North York Moors to Scarborough

Scarborough Castle overlooks the town, 300m above sea level. It was originally built in the 1100s, taken over and renovated by Henry 11 and has since withstood five major seiges from the 1300s to the 1600s. The last bombardment destroyed part of the walls of the great tower and half the building collapsed. German bombing in WW1 caused even more destruction and the castle continued its decline.
